Job Description
Candidates will need to demonstrate they can be both hands on in account submissions/agreement and cost interrogation/control/forecasting, whilst able to stand back and manage the bigger picture of the multiple live projects and commercial team.
Key accountabilities
- The main purpose of a Senior Quantity Surveyor is maximising the commercial results and cashflows of projects whilst developing and maintaining excellent client relationships.
- Visit sites to monitor and report on site progress, collating records, and measurements for raising applications for payment.
- Raise applications for payment and chase payments.
- Ensuring there is effective cost management of the project through regular and accurate forecasting of cost and value.
- Work with the buying team on the procurement process to maximise profit, ensure supply chain, and subcontract orders are placed on time and in accordance with the company policy. (Including references taken, suitable levels of HSEQ etc)
- Make payments to suppliers and monitor spend against budgets.
- Communicate the commercial progress of the projects to the wider team.
- Support, advise, develop, and train all members of the site team on commercial matters
- Mentor junior members of the commercial team.
- Be aware of the contractual requirements of the project, advise the site team on key risks and opportunities
- Ensure that all notices and other matters are actioned accordingly to protect the businesses contractual position.
- Act and ensure others are acting in the best commercial interests of the business.
Skills & experience
- An accredited course by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS, the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) or the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (ICES). Alternatively, a degree with some numerical or technical is advantageous.
- Relevant HND subjects include building/construction, urban and land studies, civil engineering and structural
- Adequate experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor
- A degree in QS and relevant experience obtained (desirable)
- Experience in NEC forms of contracts
- A UK Driving licence
- CSCS Card
