UK ‘could export offshore wind technology as costs fall’

The falling costs of offshore winds mean the UK could soon be an exporter of the clean energy technology.

That’s according to former CEO of Energy UK, Angela Knight, who spoke to ELN at the Conservative Party Conference.

She said clean power sources have now reached a tipping point and suggested this signalled a new direction for Britain’s energy sector.

She added: “The UK is now becoming a much lower cost destination for offshore wind and that starts to turn us into a country which could export its technology.

“I think the new direction was more signalled earlier in the year, when the advent of offshore wind and the totality of renewables finally came to a point, which they could actually supply, certainly when the wind was blowing and the sun was shining, what the UK’s demand for power is.”
